Android Oreo Update
Android Oreo update has been rolled out to OnePlus 3s closed beta group
The much awaited Android Oreo has made its way onto the OnePlus devices, with the OnePlus 3 having a beta group of users who already have Android 8.0 Oreo on their devices. The company is hopeful that they will be able to start a public beta of the operating system by the end of the month. The next smartphones that are in line with the update are the OnePlus 3T and the OnePlus 5. It is expected that these smartphones will get the update by the middle of October.
What has proved to be interesting is the fact that the OnePlus 3 received the update before the more recent smartphones which are the OnePlus 3T and the OnePlus 5. However, it seems that the OnePlus 3 is going through problems with its features such as the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and hotspot. The company has chosen to carry out the update on this device as there are chances that something could go wrong with the update which would require logs to be taken.
The OnePlus 2 has also already received this update although it is not official. This upgrade comes through the LineageOS 15 that is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The users of OnePlus 2 are yet to get an official update to Android 7.0 Nougat. The version that is available on the OnePlus 2 is already in its third revision and has bugs that users should be aware of.
The CEO of OnePlusOne, Pete Lau had said on Twitter that “OP3/3T will receive Android O within this year.” The company had confirmed the news on Reddit as well as in a blog post on its website. The new operating system has a number of features such as picture-in-picture option, better battery life and an improved channel for notifications to name a few.
The only other company which has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo on its devices is Google. It has launched the OS on Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C tablet Google Nexus 5X, Nexus Player and Nexus 6P. Hence this update is going to make OnePlusOne the first non-Google company to roll out the update on its devices.
